What messages are you sending?

You don’t have to say “yes” to everything he or she wants. But, be careful. When you say, “We can’t afford it,” and then you spend money on other things, you’re giving a strong message: “We have money for what we want, but not for what you want.” Since this probably isn’t the case, be sure to think carefully and say something like, “We’d rather save for something more important.”

Listen to yourself and see which messages you’re giving your kids, because you may be surprised by what you’re telling them.
